Overview
The Opportunity for eLearning
"Before you become too entranced with gorgeous gadgets and mesmerizing video displays, let me remind you that information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, and wisdom is not foresight. Each grows out of the other, and we need them all. "
Arthur C. ClarkThe problem
The problem with "Learning" is that in organisations, we may not get to see the outcomes of our actions and as a result, cannot reflect on them to learn. The consequences of our actions may be in the too distant future or affect a part of the organization far removed from ours.Blended eLearning
The advent & subsequent practice of providing " blended eLearning " creates a new and exciting opportunity to properly deliver targeted knowledge and learning, directly to the individual through a standard web based connection. A "well-considered" deployment of sophisticated eLearning & communication technologies enables this scenario to be reversed. It must be noted however, that eLearning is not just about taking older forms of learning & training and just delivering information via a telecom connection. Rather, eLearning presents a challenging prospect to learning providers on how well current technology can be deployed to enhance & innovate learning practice. That is, to intervene with personalised, blended & accessible environments which maximise enjoyment and effectiveness. Moreover, eLearning is a confusing model to come to terms with, any organisational move into eLearning needs to be a considered "pedagogical" process rather than technology driven eExpansion of an organisation's IT infrastructure.
Whilst the benefits are increasingly well documented, eLearning does present many technological and cultural change issues. Market Makers experience advocates a collaborative approach, considering " People," "Process" and "Technology" in equal measure.
Market Makers, through its dedicated Knowledge Management Consultancy Division, is locally positioned to directly assist and collaborate in the development of world-class eLearning and Knowledge Management practice.
